Overview

Max A Mandel Golf Course in Laredo, Texas is seeking a Marshal/Starter to provide guest service, assist with check-in flow, guide players to the first tee, and help maintain pace of play on the golf course. The role is suited for friendly, organized individuals who enjoy working with the public in a fast-paced, hospitality-focused outdoor environment. Beginners are welcome, and prior golf course starting experience is not required, though golf knowledge is preferred. Candidates should have flexible availability including weekends, holidays, and during golf season as needed.

Experience Required

• Must have a valid driver's license if driving golf cars or driving range equipment.
• Must have a strong work ethic.
• Must have a friendly personality and enjoy working with the public.
• Must be organized and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
• Must have strong customer/guest orientation.
• Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be dependable.
• Knowledge about the game of golf preferred.
• High school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possesses basic math skills.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
• Flexible schedule with availability to work weekends, holidays, and golf season as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain professional appearance.
• Provide information regarding the golf course, play time, and other golf-related issues.
• Provide customer service to arriving guests to help expedite the check-in process.
• Verify that all revenues have been properly recorded by inspecting receipts for all players before they begin play.
• Keep golf shop personnel informed regarding pace of play off the first tee.
• Supply guests with scorecards, pencils, and other items if needed.
• Advise guests of course conditions and expected pace of play.
• Implement and support all course policies and programs as communicated by management.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
• Start players on the first tee and explain the rules of play for the day.
• Maintain an accurate starting sheet so the whereabouts of players are known.
• Cue groups to move to the first tee and ensure no more than one group is on the tee at one time.
• Tour the golf course assisting players when needed to maintain the posted pace of play.
• Check restrooms and water stations on a regular schedule.
• Maintain proper spacing on the golf course to avoid delays.
• Complete the golfer tracking report on a daily basis.
• Remind players of the cart rules of the day.
• Repair ball marks and collect trash on the course; replace hazard stakes or directional signage.
• Communicate regularly with the Golf Shop and Starter.
• Monitor the course and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Assist golfers when needed.
• Report problem situations to the Head Professional in a timely manner.
• Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
• Perform other duties as required.
