Description
Position summaryReporting to the General Manager, the Golf Course Superintendent directs all aspects of golf course and grounds maintenance and operations at Wenatchee Golf & Country Club. This includes turfgrass and plant material management, irrigation and water management, capital and renovation projects, personnel leadership, budgeting and financial management, member and committee relations, regulatory compliance, and equipment care. The Superintendent works to create an environment where staff are engaged and enthusiastic, with open communication and respect for one another, the membership, guests, and the property, while upholding the high conditioning standards our members expect.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct the maintenance of all greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, clubhouse grounds, and common areas to a high standard of quality and playability.
- Develop and execute an annual agronomic plan covering fertilization, cultivation, pest and disease management, topdressing, and seasonal practices appropriate to our turf species and climate.
- Oversee the irrigation system, including scheduling, moisture monitoring, hand watering, repairs, head replacement, pumps and wells, and system auditing and improvements.
- Lead golf course construction and renovation projects, including active involvement in the planned Dan Hixson renovation from design coordination through construction and grow-in.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and develop maintenance staff, including leading the search for and hiring of the First Assistant Superintendent.
- Partner with the Equipment Manager/Mechanic to maintain a safe, reliable equipment fleet and keep accurate maintenance and inventory records.
- Prepare and manage the department operating and capital budgets, forecast expenses, reconcile and code invoices and payroll, and operate within approved budgets.
- Procure supplies, materials, and chemicals, maintaining accurate inventory and records.
- Attend Green Committee and other meetings, assist the Green Chairman with preparation, and report regularly to the General Manager on course conditions, projects, and budgets.
- Compose a monthly article for the Club newsletter that educates members on current agronomic and cultural practices on the golf course.
- Maintain effective member, guest, and public relations and represent the Club professionally at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and with Club policies, including safe work practices and proper pesticide handling and record keeping.
- Work is performed both outdoors on the golf course in varying weather and indoors in an office setting.
- Requires walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting, along with regular operation of vehicles, equipment, and office machinery.
- Early mornings, weekends, and extended hours are required during peak season and active projects.

Qualifications

- Degree or equivalent coursework in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant or Soil Science, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in golf course maintenance as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Knowledge of soil science, plant health, turfgrass species, pest management, irrigation, and water management.
- Valid Washington State Pesticide Applicator license, or the ability to obtain one shortly after hire.
- GCSAA membership and Class A status, or a clear path toward it, preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and budgeting skills, and proficiency with relevant software.
- Valid driver license.
