Position Overview
The Golf Course Starter plays a vital role in delivering an exceptional golf experience by ensuring the efficient flow of play, providing outstanding member and guest service, and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. As one of the first team members golfers interact with, the Starter creates a welcoming first impression while managing daily tee operations and supporting the overall success of the golf operation.
Working closely with the Professional Staff and the Caddie Managers, the Starter serves as a key liaison between members, guests, and the golf operations team to ensure an organized, enjoyable, and seamless golf experience.
This position is ideal for an energetic, service-oriented individual who enjoys interacting with people, has a passion for golf, and takes pride in creating an exceptional experience for every member and guest while ensuring the efficient operation of the golf course.
Experience Required
Qualifications
- Previous experience in golf operations, customer service, hospitality, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of the game of golf, its rules, and golf etiquette is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional while addressing member requests and operational challenges.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to working collaboratively within a team environment.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and early morning shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a private club, resort, or high-end hospitality environment.
- PGA Associate or Affiliate status, or an interest in pursuing a career in golf operations or PGA Membership.
- Passion for delivering exceptional member service and maintaining high operational standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
Essential Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Tee Operations & Pace of Play
- Manage the first tee by organizing groups and starting play according to the daily tee sheet.
- Verify tee times and ensure golfers are prepared to begin play on schedule.
- Communicate daily course conditions, cart rules, local rules, and pace-of-play expectations.
- Monitor tee time intervals to promote an efficient pace of play and minimize delays.
- Coordinate with Golf Shop staff, Marshals, and Player Services to address tee sheet adjustments, weather delays, or operational changes.
Member & Guest Hospitality
- Greet members and guests in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
- Learn and recognize members by name while providing personalized service.
- Anticipate member needs and resolve concerns promptly while maintaining exceptional service standards.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for the club by creating a positive first impression for every golfer.
Golf Operations Support
- Work alongside the Player Services team to ensure staging areas, practice facilities, and the first tee are clean, organized, and presentation-ready.
- Coordinate with the CaddieMaster/Outside Operations staff to ensure key objectives are being completed efficiently and effectively.
- Communicate effectively with all golf operations staff to maintain seamless service throughout the day.
