Description
OverviewThe General Manager directs and oversees all aspects of the club or facility, including its activities and relationships between guests, associates, and the community. This role has ultimate responsibility for maximizing guest satisfaction and financial performance while managing relationships among the club, ownership, members, guests, associates, community, government, and industry.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Class A member of PGA/LPGA, CMAA preferred.
- Ability to read and speak English may be required to perform job duties and communicate with customers or co-workers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Regularly stands, walks, and sits; occasionally may climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, taste or smell.
- Regularly uses hands to finger, feel or handle, reaches with arms and hands, talks or hears.
- Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions; noise level is moderate.
Essential Responsibilities
- Administer club policies and procedures established by ownership.
- Plan, develop, and approve operational policies, programs, procedures, and methods.
- Monitor financial reports and statements and take corrective action when necessary.
- Coordinate development of long-range and annual business plans.
- Work with Human Resources to establish personnel policies, training, and professional development programs.
- Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, evaluate, reward, and discipline associates; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Directly manage department leaders including operations, ski club, food and beverage, sales and marketing, golf, superintendent, fitness and racquet, controller, and administrative support roles.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings to stay current in the field.
- Coordinate development of operating and capital budgets and monitor monthly financial statements.
- Provide advice and recommendations regarding construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment, and services.
- Ensure the club operates in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Oversee care and maintenance of the club's physical assets and facilities.
- Ensure high standards for food, beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment, and other club services.
- Establish and monitor compliance with procurement and purchasing policies and procedures.
- Participate in appropriate outside activities to enhance the prestige of the club and fulfill community obligations.
- Report member infractions to ownership for necessary action.
- Serve as liaison between management staff and ownership.
- Maintain relations with police, fire, liquor control board, health department, and other governmental agencies.
- Perform competitive analyses on clubs and other businesses providing member alternatives.
- Handle emergencies such as fires, accidents, and security or house rule breaches promptly and in person.
- Convene and preside over meetings with departmental directors and managers and conduct all-facility personnel meetings.
- Give direction to and work closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms, and individuals providing services, lease agreements, or contracts.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
