OverviewPosition Summary:
Copperleaf Golf Club is seeking its next Director of Golf Operations, a pivotal leadership role opening for the first time in more than 22 years. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, high‑volume Bundled Golf community and serve as the forward‑facing ambassador for a program defined by exceptional service, strong member engagement, and continuous growth.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, energetic, and charismatic professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and genuinely enjoys being out front with the membership, playing regularly, teaching, hosting programming, and building meaningful relationships. This leader will mentor a talented professional staff, maintain clear and timely departmental communication, and embody the service‑driven culture that defines Copperleaf.
With 625 memberships and roughly 50,000 annual rounds, Copperleaf offers a vibrant golf atmosphere supported by a meticulously maintained Gordon Lewis‑designed course, refreshed by Kip Schultes in 2015. The Club recently completed a transformative $20 million renovation of its clubhouse and restaurant facilities, ushering in a new era of energy, pride, and elevated member experience. The staff culture has strengthened significantly over the past year, and the next Director will play a key role in sustaining this positive momentum.
This highly visible position oversees all aspects of golf operations for the Copperleaf Golf Community Association, Inc., ensuring exceptional service, operational efficiency, and alignment with Board‑approved policies. Responsibilities include leading and developing the golf staff, strengthening relationships with members and guests, managing all golf‑related assets, and contributing to the annual budgeting process. The Director will also represent Copperleaf within the local golf community, enhancing the Club's reputation and presence.
Copperleaf is seeking a leader who will elevate the member's experience, champion innovation, and confidently serve as the face of the operation, guiding the Club into its next chapter of excellence.
Experience Required
Supervisory Duties:
Supervises 25 or more golf operations staff, including Head Professional, Outside Operations Manager, and Lead Assistants.
Qualifications:
- Class A-1 PGA membership required
- Proven Track Record of course/golf management
- Well-connected in all facets of local and national golf programs
- Proven to be a solid mentor to those looking to advance their careers
Skills and Attributes:
- Proficient computer software knowledge and skill: documents, spreadsheets, email, calendar maintenance, and industry-specific software
- Oral comprehension: ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Essential Responsibilities
Tasks/Duties:
Business Management Services
- Proactive participant in the Association's annual budget process; provides detailed financial and operational information regarding current and future golf operations. Provides historical information relative to rounds, revenues, and expenses.
- Provides timely variance analysis on a monthly and annual basis.
- Provides vision and foresight into capital improvements to provide interesting new potential long-term improvements to the club.
- Reports to the Board of Directors and committees, studies related to the decision-making process on operating policies and procedures.
- Continually search for innovative price/value products and services from vendors.
- Proactively monitor and control each line item in the golf operations operating budget.
- Recommends programs to maximize revenues while maintaining control over expenses.
- Provides monthly written and verbal reports to the Board of Directors.
- Works closely with committees and staff to promote usage of the golf course and club facilities.
- Works with committees and staff to build programs designed to encourage new players and to grow golfing participation.
- Provides leadership relative to member and professional services and enjoyment of the golfing experience at Copperleaf.
- Works in harmony and promotes innovation and teamwork amongst department managers and administration.
- Meets regularly with managers from all departments regarding scheduling and planning.
- Works with all managers to improve member satisfaction in all areas of the club operations.
- Responsible for the supervision and insuring and maintaining a profitable retail concession consistent with the Association's budget parameters established by the Board of Directors and member demographics and needs.
- Provides committees and Board of Directors with analysis and recommendations for maximizing member satisfaction in the retail piece of the golf operation.
- Keeps self and staff abreast of industry trends and innovations to ensure that the golf staff is able to provide accurate and timely information to customers.
- Attends relevant merchandise trade shows to keep informed as to the latest merchandise and trends in the market.
- Attends PGA seminars and requires assistant professionals to attend PGA seminars for professional development and subsequent club application.
- Communicates often and effectively with Pro-Shop and Cart Barn Staff
Member Services:
- Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and ensuring an exceptional golf experience while providing excellent professional services and programming to members and guests.
- Creates a golf program that blends member satisfaction while maximizing usage of the golf course and facilities.
- Monitors and blends pace of play with player development and enjoyment by all members.
- Provides educational information to membership and staff on pace of play, course care and etiquette thru verbal and written means.
- Provides and markets a teaching and learning culture resulting in improved enjoyment of the game for players.
- Provides the latest technology in instruction to foster maximum player game enjoyment.
- Provides expert club fitting, club repair and equipment recommendations for players of all abilities.
- Is a proactive participant and resource to the Association's committee process and provides detailed operational information to the committees including, but not limited to, the Golf Committee, Green Committee, CLGA, CMGA, Member Classic Committee, Club Championship Committee, Member Guest Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Finance Committee and Employee Retention & Recognition Committee.
- Responsible for innovative tournament programs that service all member segments.
- Actively participates with all golf associations within the club.
- Creates programs and events with responsible committees designed to grow tournament participation and enhance tournament experiences.
- Continues the Reciprocal/Consortium group organization.
- Responsible for the implementation of innovative player development programs.
- Responsible for consistent application of club rules regarding golf operations.
- Provides a well-organized, neat, and clean practice range appearance, with high-quality and a large number of practice balls.
Staff Management:
- Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, retaining, and supervision of approximately 25 or more members of the golf operations staff.
- Provides training in cultural needs, customer service, professional services, and club policies and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains a consistent and competitive retention program that fits club demographics and needs.
- Makes all employees a valued and important part of the golf operation.
- Provides clear and concise delegation practices to all team members.
- Provides feedback to employees, leading to improvement, daily, relative to performance.
- Provides structured performance review programs for all employees.
- Administers a proactive and consistent reward and disciplinary program for all employees.
- Responsible for communicating an innovative and positive member relations philosophy to staff.
- Maintains an open-door policy that rewards innovation and effort.
- Creates an environment that nourishes a positive attitude in the workplace.
- Responsible for effective communication and delegation to the golf operations staff.
- Communicates changes to employees regarding Human Resource practices, club or operation policies, and operating procedures.
- Complies with and promotes all organization policies and procedures, including the Drugfree Workplace policy
- Performs other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.
- Required to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Regular attendance according to schedule is a requirement of this position
