Overview

Smithfields Country Club is a premier private 18-hole golf facility located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The course features Bermuda fairways and TifEagle ultradwarf Bermuda greens and is recognized for providing exceptional playing conditions year-round. We are seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to help maintain and continually improve the high standards our members enjoy.

Experience Required

• 2-4 year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field required
• Previous golf course maintenance experience required
• Knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, fertilizer and pesticide applications, and equipment operation
• Experience maintaining warm-season turf, including ultradwarf Bermuda greens, preferred
• Strong work ethic, leadership abilities, and attention to detail
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather conditions

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of golf course maintenance and operations
• Help manage and maintain high-quality playing conditions on 18 holes featuring Bermuda fairways and TifEagle ultradwarf Bermuda greens
• Monitor turf health and implement agronomic practices including mowing, fertility programs, aerification, topdressing, and moisture management
• Assist with irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs
• Supervise, train, and motivate maintenance staff
• Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications in accordance with state regulations and best management practices
• Ensure daily course setup meets the club's standards for playability, consistency, and presentation
• Operate and maintain golf course equipment as needed
• Support planning and execution of agronomic programs and course improvement projects
