Description

Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the daily maintenance and conditioning of the golf course, practice facilities, and surrounding grounds. This position assists with planning, supervising, and participating in all aspects of golf course maintenance while helping lead the maintenance team to ensure exceptional playing conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with the daily operation and maintenance of the golf course and grounds.
• Supervise and motivate maintenance staff, providing direction, training, and support to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
• Monitor and maintain high standards of turf quality, course presentation, and overall playability.
• Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, repairs, scheduling, and water management.
• Apply pesticides, fertilizers, and other plant protectants in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs of golf course equipment, working closely with the equipment technician or mechanic as needed.
• Operate a variety of golf course maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Assist in developing daily work schedules and assigning tasks to maintenance personnel.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust maintenance practices accordingly.
• Maintain accurate records related to pesticide applications, irrigation, equipment, and maintenance activities.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices and a positive team environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.

Qualifications Required

• Minimum of 2 years of golf course maintenance experience .
• Valid Pesticide Applicator License , or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe if permitted by state regulations.
• Working knowledge of turfgrass maintenance practices, irrigation systems, and golf course equipment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.

Preferred

• Degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture , or a related field.
• Experience assisting with equipment maintenance and repair.
• Experience with irrigation system diagnostics, programming, and repairs.
• Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools.
