Description
OverviewResponsible for managing all agronomic procedures for the 12-hole course. The assistant superintendent reports directly to the Director of Agronomy and works closely with other assistants and equipment managers while helping deliver a positive experience for members and guests.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's or associate's degree from a two- or four-year college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil science.
- Three to four years of related experience and/or training.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Pesticide Application License required.
- Ability to read and speak English is required to perform the duties of the job.
- Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
- Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
- Supervise the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
- Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained.
- Assist in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations.
- Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with the preparation of required reports.
- Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
- Reconcile and provide timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
- Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
- Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within regulations; address environmental concerns directly.
- Manage department members including positions such as mechanic, environmental technician, equipment operator, foreman, greenskeeper, and irrigation technician.
- Ensure effective orientation and training for each new associate and develop ongoing training programs.
- Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly for manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
