Description
OverviewThe Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and works under that position's direction to help manage and oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and other landscaping facilities on the property. The role supports departmental policies, assists with work assignment delegation and job performance oversight, and requires knowledge of agronomics, fertilizer and chemical applications, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.
Experience Required
- Able to communicate politely and professionally with guests, members, customers, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Enrolled in a degree in Golf Management or Agronomy or 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or combination of education and experience.
- 5 years progressive experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
- Nevada Driver's License, current and valid.
- Nevada Pesticide Applicators License to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook would be a plus.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
Essential Responsibilities
- Commit to varied and flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled Golf Club events as needed.
- Work under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent to be accountable for the golf maintenance budget.
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
- Monitor operation of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety, and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses.
- Oversee completion of staff work assignments and assist with field decisions while engaging with all levels of staff to perform labor when needed.
- Perform actual labor on the golf course as needed to demonstrate, assist, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Enforce safe working conditions, proper equipment use, and sound work methods.
- Supervise special projects and labor crews as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Report golf course conditions and disciplinary problems to the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Assist with staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
- Communicate verbally or through email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
- Coordinate equipment and tool maintenance issues with the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
- Be aware of and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Assist in administering the department through proper administrative procedures in accordance with corporate protocol, employee handbook, and policies.
- Render professional advice, opinions, assistance, and services related to the position and the betterment of the golf course.
- Assist in developing written operating policies, preventative maintenance plans, fertilizer schedules, and overall course condition schedules, and track assigned tasks.
- Help secure and protect golf facility assets, including facilities and equipment.
