Gamble Sands in Brewster, WA is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a seasonal Part-Time Assistant Mechanic! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. As part of Troon, you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.Compensation: $17.13 - $18.50 per hour
Job Overview:
As the Assistant Mechanic you are responsible for maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting all machinery. Ensuring that all machinery is safe, operational and properly serviced. Also focusing on "quality of cut" to maintain playability of the course. This is a seasonal position with an expected duration of six months or less.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Inspects and repairs defects in gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered equipment. This includes mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerifiers, and handheld tools like blowers and trimmers.
- Reel & Rotary Blade Servicing: A highly specialized task involving grinding, sharpening, and "bench-setting" reel mowers to exact heights to ensure precise mowing.
- Works with head mechanic: On schedules for oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and safety inspections to minimize downtime.
- Shop: Maintains a clean, organized work environment. This includes tracking parts inventory, managing fluid levels (fuel, oil).
- Staff Training: Helps instruct grounds crew members on the safe operation and daily cleaning of equipment to prevent damage.
- On-Course Support: Performing emergency repairs on the course and assisting with training staff on proper equipment operation.
- Record Keeping: Documents of all service records, and inventory usage, often using specialized computer software.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Education: Most positions require a high school diploma or GED. Vocational training or certificates in turf or automotive mechanics are highly preferred.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of related mechanical experience, specifically with turf or commercial equipment not required but preferred.
- Must be willing to learn:
- Problem Solving: Ability to read and interpret service manuals, blueprints, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
- Independence: Often works with limited supervision and must prioritize tasks based on the daily needs of the golf course.
Physical Stamina:
- The job is physically demanding, requiring the ability to regularly lift up to 50-100 pounds, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods.
- Working Conditions: work outdoors in various weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain and snow) and are exposed to noise, fumes, and hazardous chemicals like pesticides or fertilizers.
