Overview

Michigan-based architect Jerry Matthews, former President of the ASGCA, designed the 18-hole Chena Bend golf course at Fort Wainwright and it's known as the "Farthest North Military Course" in the United States.

Measuring 7,012 yards from the longest tees and playing to a par of 72, the course is managed by the US Army's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation program, an organisation that provides support and leisure services to soldiers, their families, military retirees and associated civilians.

Situated between the east side of the Fort Wainwright airfield and the Chena River, with a number of the holes routed alongside the fast flowing waters, Chena Bend is an ideal course for beginners but challenging enough for the more experienced, low handicapped golfer.

Conditions of employment

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
• Required to work evenings, weekends, special events and holidays as needed.
• Credit check is required.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

• Possess one (1) year of specialized experience managing a business which include but not limited to duties such as business costing and projection, creation of operating procedures, etc.

AND

• Possess one (1) year of experience supervising employees.

OR

• *Possess four (4) years of education above high school level directly related to the duties to be performed (e.g. Business Management).

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

• Possess a Class A, Associate or Affiliate PGA Certification or are currently in the process of obtaining a Class A, Associate or Affiliate PGA Certification reflecting the ability to instruct the game of golf. A copy of the certification or proof of enrollment must be submitted at the time of application.
• Possess at least two (2) years of experience in providing golf instruction at a golf course or golf business.

Education

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Essential Responsibilities

Summary

In this dual-season role, the incumbent will work at the Chena Bend Golf Course for the summer season. When winter rolls in, the position transitions to the Birch Hill Ski and Snowboard Area.

Incentives and Bonuses

• Incentives may be paid.
• Up to 25% Recruitment incentive may be paid (service agreement required). Recruitment incentives are applicable to newly hired individuals and rehired individuals (i.e., one being reinstated or re-employed after a break in service of at least 1 year).

Manages a business activity as an assistant manager.

• Recommends and enforces operating procedures.
• Represents the activity to the public.
• Conducts surveys, reviews activity reports and makes recommendations concerning services, promotional activities and revenue improvements.
